Privacy policy

BarkPing analyzes microphone audio on the device and does not require a separate BarkPing account. Here we explain local clips, shared events and technical error reporting.
Audio and analysis
Microphone audio is analyzed in real time on the device using private sound recognition. If clips are enabled, BarkPing stores only the short model window that triggered a logged event, plus brief pre-roll when available. Clips never leave the device, are not synced, and are not sent to BarkPing or Sentry. There is no live-listening feature.
The activity log
When a bark is detected, an event is stored with time, sound type (bark, howl or whine), confidence and the device name. Local detections may also have a short playable audio clip. At most 200 clips are kept; they are excluded from backup and protected by iOS file protection. Deleting activity history also deletes the clips.
iCloud sync and Family Circle
So that your other devices can receive alerts, events sync through your private iCloud database (Apple CloudKit). The data is stored with Apple under Apple's terms and tied to your iCloud account – BarkPing has no servers of its own and cannot read your data.
If you invite family members through Family Circle, sharing happens through Apple's private sharing flow. You choose the recipients, see pending invitations and can remove members or stop sharing at any time. BarkPing never receives the recipients' contact details and creates no public sharing links.
Diagnostics
BarkPing may send anonymized crash reports and technical error events to our error reporting tool (Sentry). Reports never include audio, activity log contents, iCloud identities or sharing links – only a typed operation, an error code and the app and device version. The data is used solely to find and fix problems and cannot be linked to you.
Measuring app installs
BarkPing may use Apple's privacy-preserving ad measurement to understand whether ads lead to the app being installed and opened. Apple sends delayed install signals to the ad network, such as Reddit, and we see aggregate campaign statistics. BarkPing does not send audio, activity logs, purchases, account details or advertising identifiers through this measurement. We do not use this information to identify you or track you across apps and websites.
The barkping.com website
Google Analytics loads only if you allow website analytics. We then measure page visits and App Store clicks using campaign names, language and page type. We do not send form contents, audio or visitor-specific advertising click IDs to Google Analytics. Your analytics choice is stored in your browser for 180 days; the lang cookie remembers your language. You can change your analytics choice in the footer. App Store links contain shared campaign codes, not personal identifiers. Apple uses these codes for aggregated campaign reports. A click is not a confirmed installation or purchase. Website analytics is separate from the app’s audio analysis.
If you allow analytics, Google Analytics can use first-party cookies to distinguish browsers and measure return visits. This does not link to your iCloud account or in-app purchases. Ad personalization is disabled. Read more about how Google handles data using the link below.
Ad measurement with OpenAI
OpenAI uses cookies to link page views and App Store clicks to ads. Automatic matching may also read contact details present on the page and send them to OpenAI in hashed form.
If you choose ad measurement, we share page views and App Store clicks with OpenAI to measure our ChatGPT ads. The OpenAI pixel processes technical browser information and may store an ad-click identifier in cookies (__oppref for ad clicks and __obref for the browser) to link events to ads. Automatic matching may process contact details, such as email addresses and phone numbers, if present on the page. Hashing does not make this data anonymous. Audio, activity logs and in-app purchases are not included. We request that these events are not used for future user-level ad personalization. OpenAI processes the data under its own privacy policy. Your choice is saved in your browser for 180 days and can be changed through Privacy choices in the footer. An App Store click does not mean an installation or purchase.
